Membership basics

What is direct primary care?

Direct primary care (DPC) is primary care paid for with a flat monthly membership instead of copays and insurance claims. Your fee covers access to your doctor: visits, messages, calls and ongoing management. No per-visit bills.

Do you take insurance?

No. HaniMed does not bill insurance for membership services. You can still use your insurance for labs, imaging, prescriptions, specialists and hospital care.

Do I still need health insurance?

Yes. Membership replaces the primary care part of your healthcare, not insurance. Keep coverage for emergencies, hospital stays, specialists and imaging.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

It depends on your plan and administrator. I can provide an itemized statement for reimbursement requests. Check with your HSA/FSA administrator before paying membership fees from those accounts.

Who do you see?

Adults 18 and older. HaniMed is not currently enrolling patients on Medicare.

Can I cancel?

Yes. There is no long-term contract. Cancel anytime with 30 days' notice.

Access and visits

How fast will I hear back?

Messages are answered Mon–Fri, 9 AM–7 PM ET. Urgent concerns are addressed the same day; routine messages within one business day.

For a medical emergency, call 911.

What about nights and weekends?

Primary care members have limited urgent access outside business hours. Metabolic Health members have routine messaging during business hours.

Where do visits happen?
  • Primary care: video, phone, text, and home visits in northern Westchester. A local office is opening soon.
  • Metabolic Health: virtual.
How do labs work?

I order labs through Quest or Labcorp. They are billed to your insurance, or you pay the lab's self-pay rate directly. HaniMed does not mark up labs.

What about specialists and the hospital?

I coordinate referrals and talk to specialists directly when it matters. If you end up in the ER or hospital, I can help you make sense of the plan and what happens next.

Metabolic Health

Is this a GLP-1 clinic?

No. GLP-1 medications are one option. The program is physician-led metabolic care: history, labs, structured follow-up and a plan built for you.

Is a GLP-1 prescription guaranteed?

No. Medications are prescribed only when medically appropriate, based on your history, labs and safety.

Do I need to take medication to join?

No. Plenty of patients make progress without medication. Plans are individualized.

How much do medications cost?

Medications are billed separately from membership. Cost depends on the medication and dose; we review options and prices together before anything is ordered.

Where is the program available?

Virtually in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Florida.

Can I switch from Metabolic Health to full primary care?

Yes, if you live in the local service area. Your history and plan carry over, so the switch is simple.
